Trinity Women's Basketball Takes Season Opener at Western Connecticut
Danbury, Conn. - The visiting Trinity College Bantam women's basketball team shot 61 percent from the field in the second half on its way to 65-61 come-from-behind victory over the Western Connecticut State University Colonials in the season opener for both teams this afternoon at Feldman Arena.
The Bantams connected on 14 of 23 shots over the final 20 minutes and took advantage of the Colonials' cold hands during the same stretch. Western Connecticut converted only five of 20 shots after intermission in the loss.
Trinity, which trailed from the start and at the break, 37-30, went on a 16-2 run in the opening 5:55 of the second stanza and pull ahead, 46-39. Its lead grew to 12 points following a jumper in the late by freshman guard Kaitlin Ciarleglio (Waterbury, Conn.) with 2:52 left in the game. The Colonials made it interesting down the stretch and drew within three points, 64-61 on a long three pointer from Lee with 32 ticks remaining.
Tess Donie (Worcester, Mass.) led all scorers with 16 points for Trinity while Christine Card (Waterbury, Conn.) and and Ciarleglio each netted 13 points. Western Connecticut also had three players in double figures with Heather Lee (Seymour, Conn.) leading the way with 15 markers. Stacey Roberts (Windham, Conn.) and Katie Moffo (Southington, Conn.) contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively.
