Northfield, Vt. – Junior guard Erica Junquet (Monroe, N.J.) had 19 points and three rebounds to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 77-56 win over the Norwich University Cadets in the Ed Hockenbury Women's Basketball Invitational Finals this afternoon at Andrews Hall. Trinity wins its sixth game in a row to remain undefeated and three-peat as Hockenbury champions, while the Cadets drop to 1-4. The Bantams return to the court on Monday night for an in-state rivarly game against the visiting Connecticut College Camels.
Junior center Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.) added 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists while junior forward Erin Cunningham (Wilton, Conn.) added ten points, seven rebounds, and three assists. First-year guard Allie Morin (Westwood, Mass.) and sophomore guard Meghan Lewis (Demarest, N.J.) were great off the bench for the Bantams as Morin had 13 points and two steals and Lewis added seven points and four rebounds. For the Cadets, senior captain Shyann Josler (Thetford Center, Vt.) led the way with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Erickson received the Most Outstanding Player Award for the second year in a row. Junquet, who led all scorers with 19 points on the day, and Erickson were selected for the All-Tournament Team.
After the first quarter, the Cadets led the Bantams by two points, 20-18, but Trinity came out firing in the second quarter when Junquet made a three-point shot for the Bantams in the first 10 seconds to take the lead. Trinity scored 17 more points in the second quarter and led the Cadets 35-29 as the teams headed into halftime. After the break, the Bantams scored 10 unanswered points including a jumper and three-point shot from Lewis to make the score 44-32 and increase the Bantam's lead to double digits. Going into the final quarter, Trinity kept their advantage and went on a 11-2 spurt including layups from junior captain Meghan Collins (Topsfield, Mass.), Junquet, and senior Alex Norgaisse (Haverhill, Mass.) to ensure the Bantam victory.
