Wendy Davis begins her fifth season as head coach of the Trinity College women's basketball team after guiding the Bantams to their best season since 1999-00. Trinity finished with a 17-8 mark, qualified for the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the third time in four years, and advanced to the NESCAC Semifinals for the first time in program's history. The squad, which returns the entire roster but one from last winter, and looks to continue to clim b the ladder in the always-tough NESCAC in 2009-10. Davis is 47-48 in her four years as the Bantam head coach.
Prior to Trinity, Davis enjoyed a highly successful six year stint at Western New England College, posting a 105-55 record with conference post-season bids each year and ECAC bids in 2002 and 2005. In 2004-05, Davis was named as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coach of the Year, as the Golden Bears posted a 19-8 record. She also served as an assistant coach at the University of Connecticut in 1993-94.
Davis earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from
the University of Connecticut in 1992 and added a master's degree
from her alma mater in 1994, while helping the perennial women's
basketball national power earn four NCAA bids and a trip to the
NCAA Final Four in 1991. The seventh-leading scorer in UConn
women's basketball history, Davis was a three-time Academic
All-American and made the all-tournament team in the 1991 NCAA
Regional Championship.
Assistant Coach Bob D’Angelo begins his
fifth year at Trinity in 2008-2009, after arriving with Davis for
the 2005-06 season, providing over 25 years of coaching experience
at several levels including the previous three years as an
assistant coach at Westfield State College. D’Angelo also
coached the Southington High School men’s team for 10 years
and the women’s teams at Southington, Granby, and Farmington
High Schools from 1996 to 2002. He guided the Southington high
women’s squad to a Connecticut state title. A graduate of
Central Connecticut State University, D’Angelo was a
recreational counselor for the Town of Southington for 25 years and
has been actively involved in youth sports programs camps in the
area for over 30 years.
Michael D'Angelo, son of fellow assistant coach Bob D'Angelo,
also begins his fifth year on the Bantam women's basketball
coaching staff. Mike D'Angelo was a three-year assistant
coach at Westfield State and has spent several years coaching all
ages of both boys and girls AAU basketball. He earned his
degree in education from Westfield State in 2005.
Mary Bushnell begins her second
season as assistant women's soccer coach at Trinity. A 2005
graduate of Connecticut College with a bachelor's degree in English
and American Studies, Bushnell was an English teacher and an
assistant men's soccer and men's basketball coach at St. Thomas
More Prep School from 2005 to 2008. A four-year letterwinner in
basketball and soccer at Conn. College, Bushnell was team captain
for both squads and a two-time, NESCAC All-Academic honoree. She
will also serve as an assistant women's basketball coach at
Trinity, where she is pursuing a master's degree as a graduate
assistant.
