Chee Closes Record-Breaking Women's Ice Hockey Career At Trinity

Hartford, Conn., July 30, 2009 - The Trinity women's ice hockey team, under Head Coach Andrew McPhee (7th Season), finished the 2008-09 season with a 13-10-1 overall record and an 8-7-1 mark in the NESCAC. The Bantams finished in third place in the conference and qualified for the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the fourth time in the last five years and the third year in a row. Hosting a post-season game for the second time, Trinity lost to Connecticut College, 2-1, in the NESCAC Quarterfinals.
Sophomore forward Kim Weiss (Potomac, Md.) played in 21 games and led the Bantams in scoring with 22 points on 11 goals (tied for team lead) and 11 assists (T3rd on team), including four power play goals (T8th in NESCAC), while sophomore forward Jill Roloff (West Seneca, N.Y.) finished second on the squad in scoring with six goals and a team-high 13 assists (2nd on team) for 21 points while playing in all 25 games. Junior forward Britney McKenna (Rye, N.H.) added 11 goals (tied for team lead) and four assists for 15 points with six power play goals (T1st on team, T2nd in NESCAC) in 25 games, and sophomore forward Alexa Gugleilmi (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had three goals and eight assists for 11 points and three power play goals in 25 games. Freshman forward Hannah Harvey (Silverthorne, Colo.) scored four times and added seven assists for 11 points and fellow rookie Celia Colman-McGaw (Manchester, Conn.) recorded eight goals (T3rd on team) and two helpers for 10 points including a team-high three gamewinners (T7th in NESCAC). Weiss earned All-NESCAC First Team honors, while Roloff and Harvey were selected to the Codfish Bowl All- Tournament Team, and Roloff earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors once this season.
Sophomore Laura Komarek (Plymouth, Minn.) was the top scoring defender in all of NESCAC with eight goals (T3rd on team), six on the power play (T1st on team, T2nd in NESCAC), and a team-high 13 assists for 21 points (2nd on team, in NESCAC among defensemen) while leading the team with 28 penalty minutes in 25 games. Freshman Dominique DiDia (Studio City, Calif..) had three goals and 11 helpers (T3rd on team) for 14 points (8th in NESCAC among defensemen) in 24 games. The Bantam blue line, which helped hold opponents to 2.29 goals per game (3rd in NESCAC), was also anchored by senior co-captain Kelley McCarthy (Kingston, Mass.), junior Hadley Gleason (Boston, Mass.), sophomore Michelle Benjamin (Reading, Mass.), and first-year Julie Pesta (Oxford, Pa.). McCarthy recorded five assists in 25 games, Gleason had four goals in 24 games, and Benjamin and Pesta each added two assists in 23 games. Komarek took NESCAC Player of the Week honors once this season and Gleason was selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team. McCarthy, a two-year captain and Trinity's representative on the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team, closes her fine career having scored nine goals and 38 assists for 47 points in 97 games (new College record).
Senior co-captain forward Michelle Chee (San Francisco, Calif.) completed a solid final season, playing in 25 games and totaling three goals and six assists for nine points, while sophomore forward Sarah Kohn (Winchester, Mass.) appeared in every game with four goals and five assists for nine points, junior forward Kaitlin McCarthy (Ipswich, Mass.) saw time in 19 games and had four assists, freshman forward Payson Sword (Princeton, N.J.) scored twice in 15 games, freshman forward Lindsey Weiner (Andover, Mass.) registered two assists in 23 games, and fellow rookie forward Brigitte Cellino (West Seneca, N.Y.) registered one assist in 21 games. Junior forward Emilie Wiggin (Belmont, Mass.) appeared in 14 games and sophomore forward Emily Weedon (Wellesley, Mass.) saw action in 17 games. Chee finishes perhaps the finest careers in the program's 11-year history and holds the Trinity all-time records for goals (41), assists (43), points (84), power-play goals (17), game-winning goals (8) and games (97, tied).
Junior goaltender Isabel Iwachiw (New York, N.Y.), the nation's top goalie in 2007-08, totaled 562 saves for a .920 save percentage (3rd in NESCAC), 49 goals allowed for a 2.32 GAA with an 11-8-2 record and three shutouts in 21 games and 1,266 minutes in goal in 2008-09. Iwachiw, who was selected to the Codfish Bowl All- Tournament Team and as the NESCAC Player of the Week once this season, is the College's all-time leader in wins (30) and shutouts (11). Iwachiw was ably backed up by sophomore Hilary Novik (Lakeville, Conn.), who added 91 saves for a .910 save percentage and nine goals allowed for a 2.20 GAA with a 2-2 record in four games and 245 minutes in goal.
