Harvey Leads Trinity Women's Ice Hockey Into Codfish Bowl Finals
Boston, Mass. - Freshman forward Hannah Harvey (Silverthorne, Colo.) scored the first two goals of her collegiate career, including the gamewinner, and added a pair of assists to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 6-5 win over the Neumann College Knights in the opening round of the Codfish Bowl Women's Ice Hockey Tournament at the University of Massachusetts-Boston this afternoon. Trinity improves to 5-2 with its third win in a row and advances to the championship game tomorrow at 5 p.m. against Oswego State. The Knights will take on the host Mass.-Boston Beacons tomorrow in the consolation game at 2 p.m. The finals can be heard live at www.teamline.cc (team code 2055).
With the game tied at 1-1 after one period, Harvey and sophomore forward Jill Roloff (West Seneca, N.Y.) assisted sophomore defender Laura Komarek (Plymouth, Minn.) on a power play goal 1:28 into the second period that gave the Bantams a lead they would not relinquish. Sophomore Sarah Kohn (Winchester, Mass.) added another Trinity goal 9:40 into the second frame to push the Bantam cushion to two. The Knights scored goals late in the second and early in the third to pull themselves within one on both occasions, but the Bantams answered each time. Harvey gave the Bantams a three-goal lead at 6-3 with her fourth point of the contest from Roloff and fellow sophomore Alexa Guglielmi (Rocky Hill, Conn.) 8:39 into the third period. Neumann scored twice more, including their fifth goal of the game with 33 left in the game with the goalie pulled, but fell short at the end.
Roloff finished a goal and three helpers for Trinity, while Komarek had one goal and one assist, and junior goalie Isabel Iwachiw (New York, N.Y.) made 24 saves. Jessica Schroeder and Jasper Thomson each netted two goals for the Knights. Kayla Dubowski had three assists while Khristine Acosta and Niki Blazenki added two assists each.Mel Brunet made 33 saves in net for the Knights.
