Herter Leads Bowdoin Women’s Ice Hockey Over Trinity

Hartford, Conn. - Freshman Katie Herter (Topsfield, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 4-2 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this evening at Williams Rink.  Trinity falls to 12-7-2 overall and 7-5-1 in the NESCAC with the loss, while Bowdoin improves to 7-10-1 and 5-8-1 in the league, with their fifth consecutive victory.

Bowdoin senior Samantha Stewart (Lake Oswego, Oregon) scored 2:31 into the contest to give the Polar Bears a quick 1-0 lead.  In the second, Bowdoin went on a goal-scoring binge, netting three goals in a four-minute span.  Herter scored two consecutive before sophomore Michaela Calnan (Melrose, Mass.) added another to put the Polar Bears up 4-0.

Trinity did not go down easy, as junior Britney McKenna (Rye, N.H.) answered Calnan's goal a minute later to take some of the momentum from the Polar Bears and bring the score to 4-1 before the final period of play.  Halfway through the third, sophomore Jill Roloff (West Seneca, N.Y.) scored a short-handed goal to bring the score to 4-2, but Trinity ran out of time to finish a comeback.

Freshman goalkeeper Sage Santangelo (Leporte, Colo.) made 20 saves for Polar Bears while Trinity junior goalkeeper Isabel Iwachiw (New York, N.Y.) made 31 saves on the night.

Trinity seeks revenge against Bowdoin in a 3 p.m. matchup tomm. afternoon in the final home game of the season and the last for senior co-captains Michelle Chee (San Francisco, Calif.) and Kelley McCarthy (Kingston, Mass.).
