Trinity's Romanowsky And Bruno Earn Women's Lax All-American Honors


Hartford, Conn., June 8, 2009 -Trinity College sophomore Rachel Romanowsky (Hampstead, N.H.) was selected for the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III All-American First Team, while freshman Elizabeth Bruno (Andover, Mass.) graced the IWLCA All-American Third Team.  Both were also chosen for the women'slacrosse.com Division III All-American Second Team, while Romanowsky was chosen for the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Lacrosse All-Conference First Team, and Bruno and sophomore Caitlin Irvine (Westwood, Mass.) were each named to the All-NESCAC Second Team.  Those three were also named to the IWLCA All-Berkshires Region First Team, while Bruno was selected for the womenslacrosse.com National All-Rookie Team, and senior co-captain Kristina Scontras (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), junior Sarah Remes (Silver Spring, Md.) and junior Jennifer Calver (Barnard, Vt.) were each named to the IWLCA All-Region Second Team.  Scontras also represented Bantam women's lacrosse on the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team, while Scontras and fellow seniors Carrie Disa (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Jessica Schultz (Troy, N.Y.) were each selected to play in the IWLCA/Under Armour North-South Senior All-Star Game on Saturday, June 13 at the United Sports Training Center in Downington, Pa.  Trinity, coached by Kate Livesay (3rd Season), posted a 10-4 overall record and finished fourth in the NESCAC with a 6-3 league mark.  The Bantams lost at home to Williams, 15-13, in the NESCAC Championship Quarterfinals.

Romanowsky, who earned all-league, all-region, Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III All-New England, and national all-rookie team honors in 2008, played in and started 13 games in the midfield but missed the post-season loss to Williams with an injury suffered in the regular season finale.  She led the team in goals (46, 1st in NESCAC), assists (20, 4th in NESCAC), scoring (66 points, 1st in NESCAC), and added a team-high six game-winning goals, 10 free-position goals (2nd on team) and totaled 21 draw controls (2nd on team), 15 ground balls, and 11 caused turnovers.  Romanowsky was selected to the womenslacrosse.com Division III National Player of the Week Honor Roll for scoring four goals and adding three assists in a 14-13 win at then-No. 16-ranked Williams, and earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors for racking up eight goals and five assists for 13 points in wins over Eastern Connecticut (16-3) and at Bowdoin (13-12).  An alumna of the Derryfield School, Romanowsky is majoring in studio arts at Trinity.  She is the daughter of Jan and Michael Romanowsky.

Bruno started every game at midfield and defense and totaled four goals and two assists for six points, 18 draw controls, a team-high ground balls and a team-high 45 caused turnovers (2nd in nation).  A graduate of the Brooks School, she is the daughter of Kristen and Joseph Bruno.

Irvine, who earned all-league, all-region, and national all-rookie team honors in 2008, started every game at attack and finished second on the team in goals (43) and scoring (47 points), and third assists with four.  She also had a team-high 16 goals on free positions, two game-winning goals, 20 draw controls (T3rd on team), and 21 ground balls.   An alumna of the Hotchkiss School, Irvine is also a varsity field hockey player for the Bantams.  She is the daughter of Maryellen and Bill Irvine.

Scontras, also a 2006 all-regional honoree, started every game on defense and totaled a team-high 25 draw controls, 24 ground balls (T3rd on team), and 11 caused turnovers.  In her career, Scontras notched four goals and one assist for five points with 95 ground balls, 94 draw controls, and 48 caused turnovers in 63 games.  An alumna of Cape Elizabeth High School, Scontras graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in political science.  She is the daughter of Ellen and Chris Scontras.

Remes, a three-time, all-regional honoree and a national all-rookie team selection in 2007, played in and started 13 games in the midfield and scored 11 goals.  She also had 15 draw controls and 19 ground balls.   A graduate of the National Cathedral School, Remes is majoring in Spanish and economics at Trinity.  She is the daughter of Naomi and David Remes.

Calver started every game at attack and finished second on the team in assists with eight and third in both goals with 19 and scoring with 27 points.  She also had six goals on free positions, 15 draw controls, and 24 ground balls (T3rd on team).   A graduate of the Holderness School, Calver is majoring in English and political science at Trinity.  She is the daughter of Wendy Barclay and George Calver.

Disa started every game in the midfield and totaled eight goals with one assist for nine points, 20 draw controls (T3rd on team), and 23 ground balls.  In her career, Disa notched 39 goals and eight assists for 47 points with five game-winning goals, 86 ground balls, 73 draw controls, and 38 caused turnovers in 57 games.  An alumna of Minnechaug High School, Disa graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in biochemistry and neuroscience.  She is the daughter of Kathy and Ralph Disa.

Schultz started all 14 games at attack and totaled 18 goals and four assists for 22 points, five free-position goals, and 18 ground balls.  In her career, Schultz notched 33 goals and four assist for 44 points with 18 ground balls in 53 games.  An alumna of the Emma Willard School, Schultz graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in political science.  She is the daughter of Val and Stuart Schultz.
