Boston Red Sox Honor NCAA Champion Trinity Women's Lacrosse Team
Hartford, Conn. - The 2012 NCAA Division III Champion Trinity College women's lacrosse team was recognized during the pre-game ceremonies when the Boston Red Sox hosted the Detroit Tigers at Thursday, May 31. The Bantams, coached by four-time New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Coach of the Year Kate Livesay, won the 2012 NCAA title with an 8-7 triumph over previously-undefeated Salisbury University on Sunday, May 20 on Sprague Field at Montclair State University.
The Bantams won the first NCAA crown in the program's history and finished the year with a best-ever 21-1 record. Trinity which also won its second consecutive NESCAC title this spring, defeated Bridgewater State, 16-1, Buffalo State, 17-6, Colby, 7-5, and Cortland State, 7-5, to advance to the title game. Junior attacker Kaitlin Hildebrand scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in the second half to lead Trinity to the victory in the finals. Hildebrand, senior co-captains Liz Bruno and Liza Beckler, junior goalkeeper Olivia Whitney, and sophomore attacker Shea Kusiak were named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team, and Bruno took home Most Outstanding Player honors.
