Wesleyan Wrestling Edges Trinity 25-19
Hartford, Conn. - Junior co-captain Greg Hurd (New
Hartford, N.Y.), and sophomores Chris Alvanos
(Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Charles Hoeg (Mount
Sanai, N.Y.) each pinned their opponent to lead the
Wesleyan University Cardinals to a 25-19 win over the Trinity
College Bantams in men's wrestling action this evening at Ray
Oosting gymnasium. The Bantams fall to 0-5 with the loss,
while the Cardinals win their first duals match of the season to
start with a 1-0 record.
Trinity jumped out to a 6-0 advantage after the first two
matches, and increased their lead to 12-6 after four before Hoeg
was able pin sophomore Alexander Schreiber (Washington,
D.C.) to give the Cardinals a 15-2 advantage, a lead they
would not look back from. Junior Josh Berkovich
(Montclair, N.J.) and freshman Thomas Oddo
(Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) added wins for the
Cardinals.
Trinity junior co-captain Jacob Gire (Union City,
Calif.) pinned Wesleyan sophomore Vin deLalla
(Virginia Beach, Va.) to highlight the Bantam
roster. Freshman Greg Vaughan (Hingham,
Mass.) continued his torrid rookie campaign, collecting
another win, improving his individual season record to 14-2.
Sophomore Max Walk (Paoli, Penn.), sophomore
Emeka Kanu (Bronx, N.Y.), and senior co-captain
Patrick Kumf (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) also collected
wins for the Bantams.
Trinity returns to action in a quad match this Saturday, January 10
at Worcester Tech with MIT, Southern Maine, and Williams College,
starting at noon.
