Wesleyan Wrestling Edges Trinity 25-19

Hartford, Conn. - Junior co-captain Greg Hurd (New Hartford, N.Y.), and sophomores Chris Alvanos (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Charles Hoeg (Mount Sanai, N.Y.) each pinned their opponent to lead the Wesleyan University Cardinals to a 25-19 win over the Trinity College Bantams in men's wrestling action this evening at Ray Oosting gymnasium.  The Bantams fall to 0-5 with the loss, while the Cardinals win their first duals match of the season to start with a 1-0 record.

Trinity  jumped out to a 6-0 advantage after the first two matches, and increased their lead to 12-6 after four before Hoeg was able pin sophomore Alexander Schreiber (Washington, D.C.) to give the Cardinals a 15-2 advantage, a lead they would not look back from.  Junior Josh Berkovich (Montclair, N.J.) and freshman Thomas Oddo (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) added wins for the Cardinals.

Trinity junior co-captain Jacob Gire (Union City, Calif.) pinned Wesleyan sophomore Vin deLalla (Virginia Beach, Va.) to highlight the Bantam roster.  Freshman Greg Vaughan (Hingham, Mass.) continued his torrid rookie campaign, collecting another win, improving his individual season record to 14-2. Sophomore Max Walk (Paoli, Penn.), sophomore Emeka Kanu (Bronx, N.Y.), and senior co-captain Patrick Kumf (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) also collected wins for the Bantams.

Trinity returns to action in a quad match this Saturday, January 10 at Worcester Tech with MIT, Southern Maine, and Williams College, starting at noon.
