Trinity Wrestling Takes Split at Tri-Match
Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore Nick Stewart (Sharon,
Mass.) pinned both of his opponents as the Trinity College
Bantams split a tri-match with the Stevens Institute of Technology
Ducks and the Western New England College Golden Bears this evening
at Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams are now 2-8 on the season,
while Stevens improves to 5-5 and WNEC drops to 0-2.
Trinity came up short against Stevens, who pulled out a 25-18
victory, but the Bantams bounced back to earn a 36-6 win over
WNEC. Stevens easily defeated WNEC 46-0 earlier in the
evening.
After dropping the first four individual matches and falling to a
19-0 disadvantage against Stevens, Trinity came back to win five of
the last six, but it was not enough to make up the early deficit,
as the Ducks walked away adding two wins to their record.
Trinity lost just two individual matches in the convincing win over
WNEC, the Bantams largest margin of victory on the season.
Several Trinity wrestlers went without a loss including sophomore
Max Walk (Paoli, Penn.), who finished with nine
points on the evening, junior co-captain Jacob Gire (Union
City, Calif.), who collected eight points, senior
co-captain Patrick Kumf (Chestnut Hill, Mass.),
seven, and freshman Greg Vaughan (Hingham, Mass.),
six. Vaughn is now 19-2 on the season, Gire is 7-2 and Walk
is 9-5.
Stevens senior Mark Bisitis (Whitehouse Station,
N.J.) collected 12 points at 133 pounds to lead the Ducks,
while senior Jordan Chacon (Hackensack, N.J.)
contributed with 10 of his own at 174 pounds.
Senior Ted Banks (Griswald, Conn.) and freshman
Matt Hansen (Riverside, Conn.) combined for all six WNEC points on
the evening, in the 165 and 175 pound weight classes.
Trinity will compete in the New England Duals Championships at
Roger Williams on Sun., Jan. 18.
