Trinity Wrestling Sweeps Tri-Match with Coast Guard and Southern Maine

Hartford, Conn. - Four Trinity wrestlers picked up two wins apiece as the Trinity College Bantams topped the Coast Guard Academy Bears and the University of Southern Maine Huskeis in a tri-match at Ray Oosting Gymnasium this evening.  The Bantams defeated Southern Maine to start the night, 25-13, and ended the night with a 29-16 win over Coast Guard, giving Trinity its fifth win in its last six contests.  Earlier in the evening, Southern Maine defeated Coast Guard 25-13.  Trinity improves to 5-6 on the season, Southern Maine is 7-13 after a 1-1 evening, and Coast Guard falls to 1-11 after going 0-2 in the tri-match.

Freshman 174-pounder Kyle Lundberg (Guilford, Conn.) cut a Coast Guard rally with a minor decision over junior Will Stark (West Milford, N.J.) to give the Bantams a 23-16 lead in a crucial match, and junior Emeka Kanu (Bronx, N.Y.) followed that up with an emphatic pin of Dan Pereira to give Trinity a 29-16 win over coast Guard.  Kanu and Lundberg each collected two wins.

Earlier in the evening, Trinity sophomore heavyweight Greg Vaughan (Hingham, Mass.) pinned sophomore Ryan Stanton (Salem, N.H.), his ninth pin of the year, to give Trinity a 6-3 edge over Southern Maine, a lead the Bantams would only add to.  Senior tri-captain 141-pounder Jacob Gire (Union City, Calif.) collected two wins, including a win by technical fall in the Coast Guard match that would give Trinity a 20-10 lead, which proved valuable, as the Bears would soon after cut that lead to 20-16, before Lundberg and Kanu would meet the mat.

Trinity freshman Kyle Muir (Barre, Mass.) picked up his third career pin in the match and junior Max Walk (Paoli, Penn.) picked up two wins by forfeit.  Southern Maine's Stanton and senior Doug Christensen (Middletown, N.Y.) would each earn pins in their meeting with Coast Guard.

Trinity, with just one senior on its roster, matches last season's win total of five.  The Bantams have not won more than five games since the 2005-2006 season.
