Trinity Wrestling Finishes 13th at Doug Parker Invitational

Springfield, Mass. - Sophomore captain Grant Sorensen (Moore, Okla.) and classmates Nolan Cornu (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Mason Sangillo (Florham Park, N.J.) each won three matches, to lead the Trinity College wrestling team at the Doug Parker Invitational tournament, hosted by Springfield College. The Bantams finished 13th of 15 varsity teams and had another trio of wrestlers with at least two wins.

Sorensen earned two pins and a 13-2 major decision at 157 pounds before falling by an 11-7 decision in the fourth round. Fellow sophomore John Reilly (Andover, Mass.) also competed in the 157 pound weight class and won a pair of matches, a gutsy 8-6 decision over Nicholas Jabs from Coast Guard followed by a pin of Southern Maine's Noah Robidoux less than a minute into their match. Cornu won a trio of matches in the 165 pound weight class including a 9-3 decision over teammate Francis Corvino (Belmont, Mass.). Sophomore Joe Caggiano (Fair Lawn, N.J.) worked two decisions at 184 pounds and Sangillo worked a 20-4 technical fall, a pin, and a hard fought 6-5 decision at 285. Sophomore Matt Ferraro (Reading, Mass.) earned a pair of victories at 285 for Trinity as well, one via pin and the other on a 9-7 tie-breaker fall. 

The Bantams return to action on Friday, December 2, when they travel to Southern Maine for the weekend.
