Bristol, R.I. - The Trinity men's wrestling team finished in eight place at the Scott Vieira Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. The Bantams finished less than five points behind seventh place Johnson & Wales and 36 points ahead of ninth place Bridgwater State.
The Bantams were led by sophomore captain Grant Sorensen (Moore, Okla.) who earned four wins on the afternoon, including two by pin, en route to a third place finish at 141 pounds. Sorensen won the third place match via a hard fought, 5-2 decision in his first look at the 141 pound weight class this winter. Sophomore Joe Penna (Reading, Mass.) also had a good day, working two pins at 141 pounds, as did rookie Lucas Kaminski (Hopkinton, Mass.) at 149 pounds. Sophomore Nolan Cornu (Hopkinton, Mass.) earned a pair of victories at 165 while first-year Stephen Cerrone (Quechee, Vt.) won three matches at 174 pounds to reach the semifinals for Trinity. Sophomore Mason Sangillo (Florham Park, N.J.) finished with three wins at 197 pounds, just a match away from placing, in his first competition at 197 pounds this season. In his first action back from injury, junior Lucian Cascino (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) had a great showing at 285 as he won two matches, both by pin, to reach the heavyweight semifinals.
Trinity returns to action next weekend for a tri-meet back at Roger Williams scheduled for 11 a.m.
