Providence, R.I. - Bantam rookie Stephen Cerrone (Quechee, Vt.) recorded three victories en route to a sixth place finish at 174 pounds to lead the Trinity College wrestling team at the USC Wildcat Open on Sunday, hosted by Johnson & Wales. The Bantams return to action next weekend when they travel to Western New England for a meet with four other colleges.
Cerrone grinded out 8-2, 8-5 and 7-1 decisions, respectively, to reach the fifth-place match where he ultimately fell to Johnson & Wales' wrestler. Sophomore Enrique Loya (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) also earned a pair of victories in the 174 pound weight class on the afternoon. Sophomore captain Grant Sorensen (Moore, Okla.) also earned two victories, at 141 pounds, while classmate Ian Moritz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) worked a pin just 20 seconds into his first match of the day at 133 pounds. Sophomore Drew Saccone (Osterville, Mass.) finished his day with four wins, featuring two via pins and one via a technical fall, at the 141 pound weight class. Fellow sophomore John Davis (Princeton Junction, N.J.) worked a 5-0 decision, a pin and a major decision at 165 pounds to come away with a trio of victories on the afternoon.
