Trinity Wrestling Splits Tri-Match on Senior Day

Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College wrestling team beat the Bridgewater State Bears, 36-15, and fell to the Rhode Island College Anchormen, 27-19, on Sunday afternoon in Oosting Gymnasium in the Bantams final dual-match action of the season. Trinity also honored its pair of seniors, Andrew McCahill (Easton, Mass.) and James Scalfani (Chappaqua, N.Y.), before its match against Bridgewater State in the team's final home matches of the season. 

The Bears and Anchormen also squared off in the first match of the afternoon with Rhode Island College coming away with a 30-18 victory. After today's results, Bridgewater State moves to 3-17 on the year while Rhode Island College improves to 7-9. The Bantams wrap up the regular season with a 5-10 record.

The Bantams jumped out to an 18-6 lead against Bridgewater State and never looked back, cruising to the 36-15 victory. Sophomore Ian Moritz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) ignited Trinity's run with a hard fought pin of his opponent that came 1:44 into the third round at 133-pounds. Fellow sophomore and team captain Grant Sorensen (Moore, Okla.) followed Moritz with a pin of his own while first-year Lucas Kaminski (Hopkinton, Mass.) made it three in a row with a pin at 149-pounds. Sophomore John Davis III (Princeton Junction, N.J.) won by fall at 174-pounds to account for the fourth pin of the match for Trinity.

Against Rhode Island College, Sorensen won at 141-pounds to cut into an early Anchormen lead before sophomore John Anderson (Bridgewater, Mass.) won at 149-pounds in thrilling fashion via a takedown in overtime. Sophomore Jack Reilly (Andover, Mass.) earned his second win of the day via pin at 157-pounds, as did classmate Nolan Cornu (Hopkinton, Mass.) at 165, however the Anchormen came away with the final four victories of the match to pull away with the 27-19 win.
