Steve Makein begins his third season as head
coach of the Trinity College wrestling team. The head wrestling
coach at Francis T. Maloney High School from 2002 to 2006 and was a
Bantam asisstant coach for one year prior to his current
appointment in 2007. Makein earned his bachelor's degree in
psychology from Central Connecticut State University, where he was
a Division I varsity wrestler, in 1999 and added a master's degree
in counseling from his alma mater in 2001. A gold level certified
coach by USA Wrestling, Makein serves as a Connecticut National
Team coach and as the coaches' director for USA Wrestling CT.
John Bennett enters his third year
as a Trinity wrestling assistant coach. Bennett has 25 years of
coaching experience at the high school level and has been a
certified official since 1982. An accomplished competitor, having
won medals in 11 veterans and other national and world
championships over the last 17 years, Bennett participated in the
Olympic Games Regional Qualifying Tournament for USA Wrestling in
1984.
Matt Banas, a 2002 Trinity graduate and a
four-year starter and captain for the Bantam wrestling squad,
enters his second season as an assistant coach at his alma
mater. Banas previously served as a wrestling coach at
Francis T. Maloney High School and as an assistant for the
Connecticut National Team. He is a history teacher in
Meriden.
