Six Earn NESCAC, Four Take CRCA All-Academic Honors For Trinity Women's Rowing


Hartford, Conn., August 11, 2008 - Trinity College women's rowing senior co-captain Amanda Kulik (Salem, Mass.), seniors Jessica Chitwood (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Ali Schmidt (York, Pa.), and juniors Alexandra Berluti (Westwood, Mass.), Eveline Case (New Canaan, Conn.), Amory Minot (Cohasset, Mass.) were each named to the 2008 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team, while Kulik, Berluti, Case, and Minot, also graced the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division II/III National  Scholar Athlete List.  Kulik and Chitwood were NESCAC All-Academic honorees last spring as well.  Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.  Each student-athlete selected to the CRCA National Scholar Athlete List must have rowed in the team's NCAA varsity boat and maintain at least a 3.50 grade-point average.  

Trinity, coached by Wesley Ng (2nd Season), finished the season with a best-ever, 15-0 varsity eight dual record and placed second in the New England Championships, the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) National Invitational Regatta, and the NCAA Division III Championship Regatta (best-ever finish at NCAA's).  The Bantam varsity eight easily defeated Williams College in the varsity eight grand final at the NCAA Championships to earn its second NCAA Division III Varsity Eight National Championship crown as the fastest boat in all of Division III rowing. 

Kulik rowed the No. 7 seat for Trinity's second varsity eight in the NCAA Regatta this spring.  Kulik, who earned NESCAC All-Academic for the Bantam swimming and diving team in 2007 and 2008 as well, is an alum of Salem High School and graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in Spanish.  A captain of Trinity's women's swimming and diving squad this winter, she is the daughter of Linda and Peter Kulik.  Chitwood is an alum of Sonoma Valley High School and graduated from Trinity in May with a degree is in English and sociology and minors in literature and psychology.  She is the daughter of Theresa Schultz.  Schmidt rowed the No. 3 seat for Trinity's first varsity eight in the NCAA Regatta this spring.  An alum of York Suburban High School, Schmidt graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in International Studies and a concentration in Asian Studies.  She is the daughter of Barbara and Peter Schmidt. 

Berluti rowed the No. 8 seat for Trinity's second varsity eight in the NCAA Regatta this spring.  An alum of Westwood High School, Berluti is majoring in American Studies at Trinity.  She is the daughter of Carolyn and James Berluti.  Case rowed the No. 5 seat for Trinity's second varsity eight in the NCAA Regatta this spring.  An alum of New Canaan High School, Case is majoring in International Studies, economics & development, and French Literature at Trinity.  She is the daughter of Florie Ligthart and Steven Case.  Minot rowed the No. 2 seat for Trinity's second varsity eight in the NCAA Regatta this spring.  An alum of the Groton School, Minot is a public policy & law major at Trinity.  She is the daughter of Gale and Win Minot.
