Trinity's Ng Earns National Award At Rowing Coaches Conference

Hartford, Conn., Dec. 22, 2008 - Trinity College women's rowing head coach Wesley Ng (Toronto, Ontario) has been named as the 2008 College Level Coaches Recognition Award recipient by the 32nd annual Joy of Sculling Coaches Conference. Trinity finished the season with a best-ever, 15-0 varsity eight dual record and placed second in the New England Championships, the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) National Invitational Regatta, and the NCAA Division III Championship Regatta (best-ever finish at NCAA's). The Bantam varsity eight easily defeated Williams College in the varsity eight grand final at the NCAA Championships to earn its second NCAA Division III Varsity Eight National Championship crown as the fastest boat in all of Division III rowing. Trinity men's rowing coach Lawrence Gluckman, Ng's former mentor when he served as the Bantams men's rowing assistant coach from 2004 to 2006, won the award in both 2006 and 2007.
Ng enters his third season as head women's rowing coach at Trinity. Two seasons ago, Ng led the 2007 Bantams to a 9-2 record, second place in the New England Championships and the NESCAC Championships, and a qualification in the grand final in the ECAC National Invitational Regatta. The Bantams qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship Regatta, finishing second in the grand final and in the Overall Points Standings. Ng graduated from Yale, where he helped the Bulldogs win three Eastern Sprints Championships and the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship title in 2002. In his first two years at Trinity, Ng's first and second novice crews at Trinity posted a 19-0 record with New England and ECAC National Invitational Championship titles in both 2005 and 2006. Prior to Trinity, Ng coached the freshman lightweight men's crews and assisted with the women's crew teams at Yale University over two seasons.
