Trinity's Jones And Swiggett Earn Women's Rowing All-American Honors

Hartford, Conn., June 24, 2009 – Trinity College women’s rowing senior tri-captain Natalie Jones (Haverford, Pa.) was named to the 2009 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)/Pocock Division III All-American First Team, while senior tri-captain Ashley Swiggett (Basking Ridge, N.J.) graced the CRCA/Pocock Division III All-American Second Team. Trinity, coached by Wesley Ng (3rd Season), finished the season with a 12-1 varsity eight dual record and placed third in both the New England Championships and the NCAA Division III Championship Regatta.

Jones has been the stroke for the Trinity varsity eight for three seasons, while Swiggett has rowed the No. 5 and No. 6 seats at the varsity level since her freshman year and with the first varsity eight since her sophomore campaign. Both helped this year’s squad to a bronze medal at the Head of the Charles, a fourth-place finish against predominantly Division I competition in the Murphy Cup Regatta, a bronze medal at the New England Championships, and a bronze medal at the NCAA Division III Regatta this season. Jones and Swiggett played pivotal roles, as the first varsity crew posted a 36-3 dual record and captured three New England Championship medals (silver as sophomores, gold as juniors, and bronze as a seniors) the last three springs. Swiggett also owns a gold medal in the second varsity eight from her rookie season. Both also earned bronze (2009), silver (2007), and gold (2008) medals in the varsity eight at the NCAA Division III Championship Regatta, in helped the Bantams win the Henley Women’s Regatta Senior Eight (Jefferies Cup) in the summer of 2008. An alum of the Agnes Irwin School, Jones graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in American studies. She is the daughter of Lorraine and Ken Jones. An alum of Ridge High School, Swiggett graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in chemistry. She is the daughter of Jane and Ben Swiggett.
