Trinity Women's Rowing Concludes Dual-Racing Season Against Top Competition

Worcester, Mass. - The Trinity College women's varsity-eight crew finished sixth in a race that included four of the nation's top-four boats this morning on Lake Quinsigamond, posting a time of 7:21.24. No. 5-ranked Ithaca won the race at 6:40.31 in a slight tailwind with 10 mph winds.  Trinity posted a third-place time of 7:09.35 in a heat race to qualify for the second race.  The Bantam second-varsity eight finished third in a three-team heat against the William Smith College Herons and the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers with a time of 7:56.21.  Today's racing concludes the dual season.

"The first varsity eight had possibly their best race of the season so far in their morning heat, putting up their fastest time of the year and executing the race plan well," said Trinity Head Coach Heather Barney. "They still came off the water feeling like they have even more in the tanks, so that was encouraging to hear. Unfortunately, we weren't able to replicate the focus and intensity in the final. We'll need to get better at putting together two strong races in the same day as we head into our championship season."

"The second varsity eight came off a solid week of practice in which we focused heavily on maintaining consistency in pressure and rate," said Trinity Assistant Coach Bob Brady. "This work was reflected in a strong effort that was displayed on Saturday, though we still need to find a little more consistency through the middle of our pieces. This is where we can start to shave some seconds off our time."
