Hartford, Conn. – Senior forward Katie Giberson (Valhalla, N.Y.) scored the game-tying and game-winning goals to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Hamilton College Continentals in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action this afternoon. Trinity wins its season opener, while Hamilton, ranked No. 9 in the East Region, drops its first-ever game as a field-hockey-playing member of the NESCAC to fall to 1-1 overall.
Hamilton scored first on an unassisted tally by junior forward Alex Rimmer (Rye, N.Y.) in the eighth minute, before Giberson answered just 2:13 later from rookie back Elisa Dolan (Bethesda, Md.). Trinity senior co-captain forward Jenny Ley (Warwick, R.I.) fed Giberson on the clincher 12:20 into the second half, and fellow senior co-captain forward Leigh Howard (Bethany, Conn.) scored an insurance goal from long range in the 83rd minute. Bantam senior goalie Lily Pepper (Princeton Junction, N.J.) made three saves, and Continental rookie keeper Melanie Miller (Ringwood, N.J.) stopped six shots.
