Six Trinity Women's Squash Players Earn Post-Season Honors

Bantam Frosh Bahgat Takes Both NESCAC Awards
Hartford, Conn., April 17, 2009 - Trinity College women's squash freshman Nour Bahgat (Cairo, Egypt) leads a list of three women who earned 2008-09 College Squash Association (CSA) All-American honors for the Bantams. Bahgat and junior Nayelly Hernandez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) graced the CSA All-American First Team, while junior Tehani Guruge (Colombo, Sri Lanka) made the CSA All-American Second Team. Bahgat, who was also honored as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, Hernandez, and junior co-captain Jo-Ann Jee (Kuching, Malaysia) earned spots on the All-NESCAC First Team, while Guruge joined sophomore Emery Holton (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman Pamela Jimenez (Puerto Vallarta, Mexico) on the All-NESCAC Second Team. Jee was also Trinity's representative on the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team for the second consecutive season.
Trinity, coached by Wendy Bartlett, posted a 12-3 overall record and won its third straight NESCAC Championship title. The Bantams were selected for the CSA National Team Championship Tournament (Howe Cup) for the 14th straight season, advancing to the semifinals with a 7-2 win over Yale in the quarterfinal round. Trinity lost a tough, 5-4 match to eventual champion Princeton before closing the season with a 5-4 triumph against Pennsylvania in the Third Place Match.
Bahgat quickly took over the top spot in the Trinity lineup and breezed through her first collegiate season with 17 wins in 17 matches to lead the squad in both wins and winning percentage. Bahgat won the CSA National Singles Championship crown in March, winning her five matches by a combined score of 15-1. She is a graduate of Ramses Girls' College.
Hernandez posted an 11-6 record this season, playing her way up to the No. 2 position in the lineup. She was the NESCAC Rookie of the Year and a CSA Second Team All-American in 2007-08. A graduate of Salesiano High School, Hernandez came to Trinity after a year at the University of San Luis Potosi. She is the daughter of Luis del Carman Hernandez.
Guruge, a First Team All-NESCAC and All-American honoree a year ago, was 10-6 this season at the No. 3 position in the lineup. A graduate of Musaeus College, Guruge is majoring in engineering at Trinity. She is the daughter of Jayasiri and Swarni Guruge.
Jee posted an 11-4 mark this winter and won two of her three matches in the Howe Cup. She was a Second Team All-American in 2007-08. A graduate of St. Joseph High School and a 2009 NESCAC All-Academic honoree, Jee is majoring in biochemistry at Trinity. She is the daughter of Sally and Francis Jee.
Holton was 11-6 this season and Jimenez was 7-6. Holton played No. 6 in the lineup and Jimenez was the No. 5 player. Holton is a graduate of the Lawrenceville School, and is the daughter of Courtney and Jack Holton. Jimenez arrived at Trinity from the British American School and is daughter of Lisette Larromana Rodriguez.
