Trinity Women's Squash Downs Yale To Reach Howe Cup Semifinals


Cambridge, Mass. - Sophomore Robyn Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) and freshman Andrea Echevarria (San Salvador, El Salvador) posted 3-0 wins at the No. 7 and the No. 9 spots, respectively, to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 7-2 win over the Yale University Bulldogs in the quarterfinals of the College Squash Association (CSA) National Championships (Howe Cup) this afternoon at Harvard University.  Trinity, seeded No. 4 in the eight-team field, advances to the Howe Cup Semifinals for the second straight season and will play top-seeded Princeton tomorrow at 2 p.m.  Yale drops to the consolation bracket.  The Bantams improve to 11-2 and Yale drops to 9-4.

Down 2-1 after Echevarria's 9-0, 9-6, 9-0 triumph and Yale wins by junior Alia Aziz (New York, N.Y.) at No. 3 and Alexandra Van Arkel (Philadelphia, Pa.) at No. 6, Trinity rattled off the remaining six matches including two in five games and four closely contested wins in four games.  Bantam freshman Pamela Jimenez (Puerto Vallarta, Mexico) overcame a 2-0 deficit to win the No. 5 match, taking the last two games, 9-6, 9-7.
