Trinity's Hathway Falls Just Short Of National Intercollegiate Women's Squash Crown

Hartford, Conn. - Lauren Gemmell, of Harvard University, defeated Trinity College freshman Pam Hathway (Munich, Germany), 3-2, in the finals of the College Squash Association Women's Singles National Championship Tournament (Ramsay Division) this afternoon at Trinity's Kellner Squash Center.

Gemmell recovered from a 2-1 deficit to take the fourth game, 11-8, and the deciding fifth game, 11-9.  Hathway entered the match having breezed through the 32-player tournament field with four consecutive 3-0 triumphs.  In the Malloy Division, featuring the No. 33 thru No. 96-ranked players in intercollegiate squash, Bantam senior captain Jo-Ann Jee (Kuching, Malaysia) won five matches to reach the finals before suffering a 3-2 defeat against Harvard's Katherine O'Donnell.  Trinity senior Nayelly Hernandez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) won four of five matches and junior Robyn Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) won six of seven matches, as each captured a consolation title this weekend.
