Trinity's Raj Wins Holleran Tournament At CSA National Women's Squash Singles Championships

Washington, D.C. - Trinity College sophomore Vanessa Raj (Penang, Malaysia) defeated Cornell's Michele Garceau, 3-2, in the finals of one of the four College Squash Association (CSA) National Singles Championship "B" Division (Holleran Trophy) Tournaments this afternoon at George Washington University.  Raj lost the first game, 11-6, but returned the favor with a win in the second game by the same score.  Raj captured the third game, 11-7, but lost the fourth, 11-9, before clinching the match with an 11-6 triumph in the fifth game.  

Raj had swept Drexel's Anna Hughes, 11-9, 11-4, 11-1 in the semifinals yesterday after posting a pair of 3-0 shutouts against Stanford's Tatyanna Dadabbo and Princeton's Emme Leonard in the first two rounds on Friday.  Also Friday, Trinity senior tri-captain Raneem Sharaf (Cairo, Egypt) went 1-1 in the "A" Division (Ramsay Trophy) Tournament, while junior Jenny Haley (Newport, Wales) went 1-1 in a Holleran Trophy bracket.
