Trinity Women's Swimming And Diving Takes Team And Individual Academic Awards

Hartford, Conn., August 13, 2009 - The Trinity College women's swimming and diving placed seven student-athletes on the 2009 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Academic Team, which was the highest total among the College's 29 varsity sports. The Bantams were also honored as College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American Teams for earning a team g.p.a. of 3.0 or better for the 2009 spring semester. Senior captains Regina Lea (Allentown, Pa.) and Kathryn Meltzoff (Seattle, Wash.), seniors Madelyn Light (Southampton, N.J.) and Alicia Ramadei (Trumbull, Conn.), and juniors Nicole Albino (Cheshire, Conn.), Shana Conroy (Belle Mead, N.J.), and Emily Cote (Concord, Mass.) each graced the NESCAC All-Academic Team. All four senior women's swimmers are two-time NESCAC All-Academic honorees. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average. Trinity women's swimming and diving squad, coached by Kristen Noone (9th Season), finished with a 3-8 dual-meet record and placed 11th in the NESCAC Championships.
Lea posted Trinity's top time of the 2008-09 season in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.45, 5th best all-time at Trinity) and added the squad's second-best top time in both the 50-yard free (25.91, 8th best all-time at Trinity) and the 100-yard free (56.32). Lea also owns the ninth-best time in Trinity history in the 100-yard free (56.18 in 2008) and swam a leg of Trinity's relay foursome that set a new College record of 8:09.35 in the 4x800-yard freestyle relay in 2006. An alum of the Salisbury School in Connecticut, Lea graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in American Studies. She is the daughter of LeeAnne Fura and Victor Lea.
Meltzoff posted Trinity's season-best times in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:31.12) and the 1,650-yard free (19:21.41) and its third-fastest top time in the 500-yard free (5:37.53). An alum of the Bush School, Meltzoff graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in psychology and minor in philosophy. She is the daughter of Patricia and Andrew Meltzoff.
Light was a freestyler and a backstroker for the Bantams. An alum of Seneca High School, Light graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in biochemistry. She is the daughter of Susan and James Light.
Ramadei recorded Trinity's second-fastest top time of the season in both the 50-yard butterfly (28.97) and the 100-yard fly (1:04.87) and swam its third-best top time in the 200-yard fly (2:30.27). An alum of St. Joseph High School, Ramadei graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in English. She is the daughter of Michelle and Michael Ramadei.
Albino recorded Trinity's fastest time of the winter in the 500-yard freestyle (5:34.11), its second-fastest top time in the 200-yard free (2:04.29), and its third-fastest in the 50-yard free (26.13). Albino also owns the ninth-best time in Trinity history in the 50-yard freestyle (25.97 in 2008). A graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall, Albino is majoring in biology at Trinity. She is the daughter of Thomas and Lori Albino.
Conroy was Trinity's top competitor in the breaststroke in 2008-09, earning the team's best time at 50 yards (36.12), 100 yards (1:14.28), and 200 yards (2:41.86). She also recorded Trinity's second-fastest top time of the season in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.27) and the 400-yard IM (5:03.52) its third-best top time in the 100-yard IM (1:10.35). Conroy owns the ninth-best time in Trinity history in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.86 in 2007). A graduate of Montgomery High School, Conroy is majoring in neuroscience at Trinity. She is the daughter of Linda and Marty Conroy.
Cote was Trinity's top sprinter with the squad's best time at 50 yards (25.87, 7th best all-time at Trinity), and 100 yards (55.94, 8th best all-time at Trinity). Cote also owns the fifth-best time in Trinity history in the 50-yard butterfly (28.40 in 2008) and the seventh-best in the 100-yard butterfly (1:13.13 in 2007). A graduate of Concord-Carlisle High School, Cote is majoring in creative writing at Trinity. She is the daughter of Tom Cote and Lee Nordblom.
