Trinity Swimmers Eclipse 16 College Records In 2008-09

Hartford, Conn., August 28, 2009 - The Trinity College men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished with 7-3 and 3-8 dual meet records, respectively in 2008-09 and broke 16 College records between them along the way. The Bantam squads, both coached by Kristen Noone (9th Season), each finished 11th in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships to close the season.
Women's freshman Brooke Haynes (Franklin, Mass.) paced the Bantams with the team's top times in six different events this season, including all three butterfly distances and all three individual medlay distances. Haynes set new College records in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.61) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.66), the 200-yard IM (2:13.39) and the 400-yard IM (4:40.44) at the NESCAC Championship Meet. She also recorded a 27.59 in the 50-yard fly and a 1:05.36 in the 100-yard IM to lead all Bantam women's swimmers top times in those events. Junior Shana Conroy (Belle Mead, N.J.) had all three top times for the Bantams in the breaststroke events, finishing the 50-yard breast in 36.12, the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.28, and the 200-yard breast in 2:41.86. Senior tri-captain Katherine Meltzoff (Seattle, Wash.), junior Emily Cote (Concord, Mass.) and freshman Saya Lindsay (Los Angeles, Calif.) each added the team's top time in two different events, as Meltzoff finished the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:31.12 and the 1,650-yard free in 19:21.41, Cote swam the 50-yard free in 25.87 and the 100-yard free in 55.94, and Lindsay debuted with top times of 1:03.92 in the 100-yard backstroke and 2:20.16 in the 200-yard back.
For the Trinity men, sophomores C.J. Murdoch (Gladwyne, Pa.) and Dan Remigino (Wethersfield, Conn.) each boasted the team's top time in four different events, while Remigino shattered the College record in each of those four performances, and Murdoch broke three records. Murdoch had College-record times of 47.54 (100-yard freestyle), 1:44.13 (200-yard freestyle), and 4:42.95 (500-yard freestyle), and a top time of 16:46.37in the 1,650-yard freestyle, while Remigino earned record-setting times of 21.40 (50-yard freestyle), 26.76 (50-yard breaststroke), 58.08 (100-yard breaststroke), and 55.28 (100-yard individual medley). Sophomore Andrew Boynton (Northampton, Mass.) added Trinity's top time in the 50-yard backstroke with a record-breaking time of 25.38, in the 100-yard back (54.73), and in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.25).
Four different Trinity men's relay quartets set new Bantam records last winter, as Boynton, Remigino, senior captain Stephen Bloom (Darien, Conn.), and junior Brooke Gerli (Sharon, Conn.) finished the 200-yard medley relay in 1:38.74, Boynton, Remigino, freshman Parker Tricario (Darien, Conn.), and Murdoch finished the 400-yard medley relay in 3:36.83, Gerli, sophomore Barton Keery (Weston, Mass.), Remigino, and Murdoch finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:26.90, and Murdoch, Gerli, sophomore captain Ayaas Bhamla (Weston, Mass.), and Remigino swam the 400-yard free relay in 3:14.17.
In diving, freshman Kate Bress (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) burst on the scene with Trinity's top score in all four events, recording a 233.02 in the one-meter at six dives, a 235.95 in the three meter at six dives, a 313.25 at one meter in 11 dives, and a 297.0 in the three-meter art 11 dives. Rookie diver Kyle Beek (Kingston, Jamaica) topped the men off the one-meter board with a top score of 258.0 for six dives and a top score of 399.65 for 11 dives, while fellow freshman Ben Jardim (Montego Bay, Jamaica) registered the team's top scores of 267.68 for six dives and 382.75 for 11 dives off the three-meter board.
The Bantam women placed seven student-athletes on the NESCAC All-Academic Team, which was the highest total among the College's 29 varsity sports. Both Trinity teams were also honored as College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American Teams for earning a team g.p.a. of 3.0 or better for the spring semester. Senior women's captain Regina Lea (Allentown, Pa.), fellow senior captains Meltzoff and Bloom, women's seniors Madelyn Light (Southampton, N.J.) and Alicia Ramadei (Trumbull, Conn.), and women's juniors Nicole Albino (Cheshire, Conn.), Conroy, and Cote each graced the NESCAC All-Academic Team, while Ramadei and Bhamla represented Trinity swimming on the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship squad. Diver Chelsea Bainbridge-Donner (San Diego, Calif.) and swimmer Katelyn Berteletti (Stoughton, Mass.) close their four-year careers for the Bantam women, while diving captain J.J. Hall (Darien, Conn.) and captain Stephen Kates (Attleboro, Mass.) close their collegiate careers for the Trinity men's squad.
