Trinity Womens Swimming and Diving Team Tops Roger Williams
Hartford, Conn. - Trinity first-year Shelby Friel (Weston, Mass.) and the 800-yd. freestyle relay team broke pool records in a 176-116 win over Roger Williams this afternoon in women's swimming and diving action.
Friel broke the 50-butterfly record with a time of 27.35 and was a member of the 800-yd. freestyle relay team, along with first-year Carleigh Haron (North Kingstown, R.I.), senior Niki Albino (Cheshire, Conn.), and senior Emily Cote (Concord, Mass.), which finished with a time of 8:13.76.
A relay team of Friel, junior Brooke Haynes (Franklin, Mass.), Daisy Letendre (Florence, Mass.) and first-year Emily Jensen (Riverside, Conn.), also took first place in the 400-yd. medley for the women. In the individual events, Friel took first in the 50-yd. butterfly (27.35), and in the 200-yd. freestyle (2:01.95). Letendre took first in both the 50-yd. breaststroke (34.57) the 200-yd. breaststroke (2:39.64), and the 200-yd. IM (2:21.28). Jensen earned first place in the 50-yd. freestyle (25.88) and the 100-yd. freestyle (57.28), Albino placed first in the 500-yd. freestyle (5:33.00), and sophomore Kate Brees (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) took first in the 3m diving event (232.65).
The Trinity women's swimming and diving team travels to Middlebury for the women's NESCAC Championships starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, through Sun., Feb. 21.
