Alderman And Haynes To Captain Trinity Women's Swimming And Diving In 2010-11

Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College women's swimming and diving team will open the 2010-11 season in a tri-meet at Wesleyan with Bates.  The Bantams, coached by Kristen Noone (11th season), have been training since Nov. 1 in preparation for the upcoming season.  Trinity will rely on the leadership of senior co-captains Abigail Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) and Brooke Haynes (Franklin, Mass.), while the younger classes have been impressive in the water in pre-season.  Trinity's primary goal each season is the pursuit of each individual's lifetime best times, while also striving for an improved team finish in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Meets and qualifying athletes to the NCAA Division III Championships in March.

Haynes, sophomore Shelby Friel (Weston, Mass.), and first-year Megan Chiu (Monterey Park, Calif.) give the Bantams three standout performers in the butterfly, while Haynes also excels in the IM and the backstroke.  Friel is a top freestyler as well, joining junior Jenna Carroll (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore sprinter Emily Jensen (Riverside, Conn.) as three of Trinity's top returning performers in those events.  Chiu is a dynamic all-around swimmer who should score points in multiple events.  In diving, junior Kate Bress (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) is a proven asset over two years, while Emily Johnson (Reading, Mass.) is a top rookie off the board.
