Hartford, Conn. – Senior Eliza Maciag (West Hartford, Conn.) won both backstroke races for the second day in a row, and first-year Katrina Trentos (Wilton, Conn.) won the 500-yard freestyle to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a sweep of the Mount Holyoke College Lyons and the Vassar College Brewers in a women's swimming and diving tri-meet this afternoon at Trinity Natatorium. The Bantams won handily against both opponents, 179-98, against the Lyons and, 166-112, against the Brewers. Trinity ups its season mark to 4-1 with its third win in a row, while the Lyons, which downed Vassar, 144-134, is 206, and the Brewers drop to 2-3.
Trinity opened strong, taking first and third in the 200-yard medley relay to start the meet, as Macaig, senior Catherine Poirier (Malden, Mass.) and first-years Audrey Ettinger (New Canaan, Conn.) and Nina Tzianabos (Reading, Mass.) posted a winning time of 1:57.72. Maciag won the 100-yard backstroke at 1:04.19 and the 200-yard event at 2:17.64, while Trentos took the 500-yard free with a time of 5:40.78 and added a second-place time of 2:07.73 in the 200-yard freestyle. Trinity senior co-captain Brenna Weber (New Orleans, La.) placed second in both the 200-yard fly and the 100-yard free. Poirier was a close second in the 100-yard breaststroke and Tzianabos was edged by .05 seconds in second-place performance in the 50-yard free. Weber, Maciag, Ettinger, and Tzianabos posted a second place time of 3:54.45 in the 400-yard freestyle relay to close the meet just .07 seconds shy of the winning quarter from Vassar.
