Trinity Doubles Team Falls In ITA Regional Women's Tennis Second Round
Cambridge, Mass. - Senior captain Olivia Merns (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore Kelsey Semrod (Princeton, N.J.) lost an 8-2 match to the top-seeded duo of Julia Browne and Meghan McCooey, of Tufts, in the second round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III New England Regional Championship Tournament at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this afternoon. Semrod also lost, 6-2, 6-1, against Leah Kepping, of Middlebury, in the second round of the ITA Singles Consolation Bracket todat.
Merns/Semrod had posted an 8-2 win over Jaime Inskeep and Gianna Teague, of Smith College, to advance to the second round on Friday. Also Friday, Merns suffered a 6-3, 6-1 loss in the first round and Semrod fell by the same score against No. 8-seeded Maria Watanabe, of Wellesley. Semrod rebounded to defeat Audrey Jacobson, of Colby, 5-7, 6-3 (10-8) to reach the consolation second round.
