Trinity Women's Tennis Tops No. 23-Ranked New Jersey On The Road
Ewing, N.J. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams earned a 6-3 victory over The College of New Jersey Lions in women's tennis action this afternoon. Trinity improves to 8-4, while the Lions, ranked No. 23 in the nation, drops to 14-2.
Trintiy senior captain Kelsey Semrod (Princeton, N.J.) and
junior Frances Cameron (Mill Valley, Calif.) set the tone with an
8-0 dusting at No. 2 doubles, and sophomores Regan Cherna
(Bronxville, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Gerber (Bethesda, Md.)
followed with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles for a 2-1 Bantam lead
entering singles play. Gerber won in straight sets at No. 5
singles, while sophomore Senzi Mauve-Maphia (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe)
took the first set in a tiebreaker and won her second set at No. 2
singles for another Trinity point. Semrod rallied back
from a 6-1 loss in her first set to take the next two, 6-2, and,
6-1, while Cherna split her first two sets before her opponent
retied with Cherna holding a 1-0 lead in the third set.
