Trinity's Ferjanic And Hoyt Finish As Semifinalists In ITA Doubles Tournament
Cambridge, Mass. - Senior Hillary Hoyt (New York, N.Y.) and first-year Melita Ferjanic (Samobor, Croatia) outscored three opponents by a combined score of 24-5 to advance to the doubles semifinals in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship Tournament at Massachusetts Institute of Technology this weekend. Ferjanic/Hoyt won, 8-1, in their first two rounds and defeated a Tufts duo in the quarterfinals, 8-3. The Trinity pair lost to a team from Amherst, 8-4, in the semifinal round today.
All three Trinity College singles entries in the ITA Tournament won two matches before losing in the Round of 16, as Hoyt and first-years Ferjanic and Morgan Feldman (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) each won opening-round matches. Ferjanic, seeded No. 8, won twice in straight sets before suffering a grueling loss to Amherst's Jennifer Newman, 6-3, 6-7 (7), 11-9. Hoyt and Feldman both won twice in straight sets, but both also lost in the third round in straight sets.
