Trinity Juniors Finish As New England Women's Tennis Tournament Semifinalists
South Hadley, Mass. - Trinity College juniors Elizabeth Gerber (Bethesda, Md.) and Taylor Wilkins (Huntington, N.Y.) finished as semifinals in the New England Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament "B" flight held at Mount Holyoke College and other area colleges the last two days.
The unique tournament format matches pairs against each other who each play a singles match and then team up for a doubles match with the winner of the best-of-three advancing to the next round. Gerber/Wilkins won their first three matches by a combined score of 9-0, but lost to a pair from MIT, 2-1, today. Gerber won by walkover in her singles match, but Wilkins suffered a 7-6 (6), 6-2 singles loss and the pair fell, 8-5, in doubles play. Trinity senior co-captain Hillary Hoyt (New York, N.Y.) and first-year Meilta Ferjanic (Samobor, Croatia) went 2-1 in the "A" flight to finish as quarterfinalists on Friday and Saturday.
