Wellesley, Mass. - Trailing, 3-0, after doubles, Trinity took five of six singles matches to earn a 5-4 victory over the Wellesley College Blue in the opening round of the Nor'Easter Bowl Women's Tennis Tournament this afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 14 in the nation, improves to 7-1 with its sixth consecutive win, while the host Blue drops to 9-7. Trinity is seeded No. 2 in the eight-team field and will face No. 3-seeded MIT in the semifinals tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Brandeis University. No. 7-seeded Wellesley hosts No. 6-seeded Bates at 2 p.m.
Trinity senior Taylor Wilkins (Oyster, Bay. N.Y.) posted the only straight-set singles victory, 6-1, 7-6, at No. 6, while three Bantams recovered from losses in their opening sets to win two in a row. Bantam sophomore No. 1 Melita Ferjanic (Samobor, Croatia) won her first set, 6-1, but lost her second, 6-2, before winning the third, 6-0, over Sojung Lee.
