Northampton, Mass. - Sophomore Anna Barnes (Storrs, Conn.) won the mile-run in dominating fashion, finishing 16 seconds ahead of the field, among other impressive individual performances as the Trinity College women's track and field team opened the 2016-17 indoor season on Saturday at the Smith Winter Classic.
Senior Maggie Curlin (Decatur, Ill.) placed second in the 5,000-meter run which Trinity dominated as sophomore Lauren Barrett (Peabody, Mass.) finished right behind Curlin for third and senior Sophie Long (Darien, Conn.) and junior Brianna Daley (Oak Park, Ill.) took sixth and seventh-place, respectively. Junior Sara Curtis (Milton, Mass.) claimed fourth-place in the mile-run in her debut while sophomore Caroline Sullivan (South Hadley, Mass.) earned a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter run.
Senior Katie Tonyai (Jaffrey, N.H.) had a busy afternoon, finishing third in the 60-meter dash just .05 seconds off the first-place time. Rookie Katie Marlow-Benedick (Weston, Mass.) had a strong showing in her first race finishing the 60-meter dash in 8.17, good for fifth. Benedick bested Tonyai in the 200-meter dash where she finished in 27.17 for a fourth-place finish while Tonyai placed sixth. Tonyai added a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.61 while first-year Katie Lazur (East Hanover, N.J.) finished just over a second behind Tonyai for a sixth-place finish. Senior Leah McIntosh (West Palm Beach, Fla.) turned in a third-place performance in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.05.
