Seven Bantams Earn All-New England Open Honors In Women's Track And Field Championship Meet

Hanover, N.H. - Sophomore Devan Walsh (Danvers, Mass.) finished fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 130'01" to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 20th-place tie with Bates and Southern New Hampshire in the New England Women's Outdoor Track and Field Open Championships at Dartmouth College this weekend.  Trinity boasted five All-New England performances by seven different athletes to accumulate 10 points in the team scoring, while Northeastern finished first with 121 points among 39 scoring teams from all NCAA divisions.  Walsh's throw was just three inches shy of fourth place and was second among Division III entries in the event.

Bantam sophomore sprinter Katie Marlow-Benedick (Weston, Mass.) joined Walsh on the All-New England Open list with a sixth-place time of 25.22 in the 200-meter dash, as the only Division III athlete to make the finals, and teamed with junior Morgan Hallow (Charlotte, N.C.), sophomore Katie Lazur (East Hanover, N.J.) and first-year Emma Buckley (Hanover, Mass.) for an eighth-place time of 47.92 in the 4x100-meter relay.  Trinity junior Caroline Sullivan (South Hadley, Mass.) added an eighth-place time of 38:12.21 in the 10,000-meter run, and rookie Samantha March Glastonbury, Conn.) was eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 37'03.25" to roundout the All-New England performances.

Other impressive Trinity performances in the meet included a ninth-place time of 38:13.01 by senior tri-captain Hannah Ells (Amesbury, Mass.), 14th-place finishes by Marlow-Benedick and Hallow in the 100- and 400-meter dashes, respectively, a 15th-place heave of 40'04.00" by sophomore Peace Kabari (Manchester, N.H.) in the shot put, and a 20th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run by sophomore Samantha Feenstra (Cape Elizabeth, Maine).  Trinity athletes will have one more chance to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships at MIT's Last Chance Meet on Thursday, May 17.
