Trinity Volleyball Squad And Four Players Earn Academic Honors
Hartford, Conn., July 9, 2009 - Trinity College senior Emily Borsting (Portland, Oregon) was selected to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Volleyball Team. Borsting also joins senior co-captain Sara Fiorillo (Painted Post, N.Y.), senior Lisa Esposito (Pound Ridge, N.Y.), and junior Rachel Low (San Francisco, Calif.) on the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) 2008 Fall All-Academic Team, while Trinity received a New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Academic Team Award and a third consecutive American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for attaining a 3.3 team g.p.a. for the 2008 fall semester. Each student-athlete selected to the NESCAC All-Academic Team must be a starter or key reserve for a varsity team and maintain at least a 3.35 grade-point average.
The Trinity College volleyball team, coached by Jennifer Bowman (5th Season), finished the 2008 season with a 13-12 record and tied for eighth place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with a 2-8 league mark.
Borsting played in all of Trinity's 25 matches this fall and appeared in all 89 games, totaling a team-high 200 kills with a .184 kill percentage, 42 assists, 16 service aces, 165 digs, and a team-high 35 blocks. She was selected to play in the 2008 NEWVA Division III Senior All-Star Game. In her two years with the Bantams, after transferring to the College from the University of Oregon, Borsting finished with 309 kills for a .2174 hitting percentage, 70 assists, 72 service aces, 366 digs, and 64 blocks in 173 games and 52 matches. Borsting is majoring in biology at Trinity. She is the daughter of Brenda and John Borsting.
Esposito missed close to three quarters of the season with an injury, finishing with 27 kills for a .172 hitting percentage and 14 blocks in 27 games and nine matches as a middle hitter. A two-time NESCAC All-Academic honoree, Esposito closed her Bantam career with 337 kills for a .207 hitting percentage (4th best all-time at Trinity) and 104 blocks (5th all-time at Trinity) in 224 games and 71 matches. Esposito attended Fox Lane High School and graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in anthropology. She is the daughter of Roger and Danielle Esposito.
Fiorillo, a two-time, NESCAC All-Academic selection, played in 12 games and 10 matches as an outside hitter and totaled nine kills. An alum of Corning West High School, Fiorillo graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in English and public policy & law. She is the daughter of Lou and Ellen Fiorillo.
Low played in 28 games and 16 matches as both a setter and at libero, notching 61 assists and 52 digs. A graduate of University High School, Low is majoring in art history at Trinity. She is the daughter of Doreen and Larry Low.
