Trinity Volleyball Says Good-Bye To Four Outstanding Seniors

Hartford, Conn., Jan. 29, 2009 - The Trinity College volleyball team, coached by Jennifer Bowman (5th Season), finished the 2008 season with a 13-12 record and tied for eighth place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with a 2-8 league mark.
Senior co-captain MH Nicole Cahill (Quincy, Mass.) played in all of Trinity's 25 matches this fall and appeared in all 91 games, totaling 197 kills (2nd on team) with a .174 kill percentage, 31 service aces (T 2nd on team), 37 digs, and 26 blocks (2nd on team). Senior OH Emily Borsting (Portland, Oregon) played in all of Trinity's 25 matches this fall and appeared in 89 games with a team-high 200 kills for a .184 kill percentage (3rd on team), 42 assists, 16 service aces, 165 digs, and a team-high 35 blocks. Junior outside hitter Molly Ullman (Studio City, Calif.) played in 24 matches and 79 games, while sophomore OH Kristen Anderson (West Haven, Conn.) appeared in 24 matches and 75 games in 2008. Ullman had 196 kills and a .144 hitting percentage, while adding a team-high 33 service aces, 167 digs (3rd on team), and 10 blocks, while Anderson finished with 125 kills for a .186 kill percentage (2nd on team), 88 assists, 24 aces, 147 digs, and 12 blocks.
In her fine career, Cahill totaled 948 kills for a .217 hitting percentage, 155 service aces, 185 digs, and 170 blocks in 379 games and 105 matches. In her two years with the Bantams, after transferring to the College from the University of Oregon, Borsting finished with 309 kills for a .174 hitting percentage, 70 assists, 72 service aces, 366 digs, and 64 blocks in 173 games and 52 matches. Both were selected to play in the New England Volleyball Association All-Star Game in November.
No less than four freshmen played major roles for Trinity volleyball this fall, as L Sarah Blagden (Charleston, S.C.) played in every match and appeared in 82 games, S Jennifer Low (San Francisco, Calif.) saw action in 24 matches and 78 games, OH Emily Guthorn (Huntington Beach, Calif.) played in 19 matches and 62 games, and MH Kelly O'Brien (Pelham Manor, N.Y.) appeared in 18 matches and 58 games. Blagden led the Bantams in digs with 349 (6th in NESCAC) and added 17 service aces, while Low registered a team-high 660 assists with 31 aces (T2nd on team), and 173 digs (2nd on team). Guthorn made 123 kills for a team-best .201 kill percentage to go with 19 aces, and 103 digs, and O'Brien notched 63 kills for a .105 kill percentage with 24 blocks (3rd on team).
Senior MH Lisa Esposito (Pound Ridge, N.Y.), although plagued by an injury in her final season, collected 27 kills for a .172 hitting percentage and 14 blocks in 27 games and nine matches, while junior S/L Rachel Low (San Francisco, Calif.) added 61 assists and 52 digs in 38 games and 16 matches, and sophomore Amanda Poole (Summit, N.J.) had 33 kills and 25 digs in 23 games and 15 matches. Esposito closes her fine collegiate career with 337 kills for a .207 hitting percentage, and 104 blocks in 224 games and 71 matches. Senior co-captain OH Sara Fiorillo (Painted Post, N.Y.), who earned NESCAC All-Academic, along with Esposito and Rachel Low, and NESCAC All-Sportsmanship honors in 2008, completes her career with 85 kills for a .071 kill percentage, 23 aces, and 120 digs, in 119 games and 61 matches.
