Trinity Volleyball Wins At Bates
Lewiston, Maine - Senior Alexandra Pell (San Diego, Calif.) had 14 kills and just error for a .406 hitting percentage to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 3-1 victory over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) volleyball action this evening at Lumni Gymnasium. Trinity improves to 17-7 overall and 5-3 in the NESCAC with its third win in a row, while Bates drops to 5-17 overall and 0-9 in the league. Trinity took the first two sets, 25-17, and, 25-21, but Bates rallied to win the third set by the same score as the second. The Bantams prevailed in the fourth set, once again by a count of 25-21 to take the match. Trinity, which has qualified for the NESCAC Championship Tournament and could finish anywhere between the No. 3 and the No. 7 seed based on the results of several matches tonight and tomorrow, will finish off the 2011 regular season with matches against No. 25-ranked Bowdoin at 11 a.m. and Colby at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at Bates.
Bantam sophomore OH Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) had a team-high 15 kills, while senior L Sarah Blagden (Charleston, S.C.) had a match-high 25 digs, and senior S Jennifer Low (San Francisco, Calif.) passed out 33 assists. Senior Chrissy Gee (San Francisco, Calif.) had 15 kills against only four attack errors for the Bobcats (5-17, 0-9 NESCAC), while junior Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) pitched in with 13 kills. Pyne, senior Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and first-year Hannah McGrath (Longmeadow, Mass.) had three blocks apiece for the Bobcats, who also received 30 assists from first-year Tess Walther (Santa Monica, Calif.) and 17 digs apiece from first-year Emma Getsinger (Darien, Conn.) and junior Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.).
