Hartford, Conn. – Senior co-captain S Jen Low (San Francisco, Calif.) totaled 48 assists and six digs to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-0 win over the visiting Western Connecticut State University Colonials in volleyball action this evening. Trinity improves to 7-1 with their home opening win, while the Colonials drop to 9-2 on the season. Trinity is ranked No. 6 in New England and Western Connecticut is ranked No. 11 in New England.
The Bantams cruised to a 2-0 lead with 25-20 and 25-17 wins, but in a third set, Western Connecticut gave Trinity a run, with the hopes of stealing momentum and forcing a fourth set. The Bantams held a 21-17 lead late in the final game before the Colonials went on a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 22-21. The teams traded points the rest of the way before the final point secured a 25-23 win, and a clean sweep for the Bantams.
Junior OH Danielle Isaman (West Hartford, Conn.) recorded 16 kills, nine digs and an ace, while sophomore OH Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) picked up 12 kills and nine digs. Senior L Alexandra Pell (San Diego, Calif.) picked up nine kills, 11 digs, two assists and an ace. Junior Paxton Thornton (Sharon, Conn.) picked up 10 kills and 12 digs for the Colonials. First-year Nina Wojtkiewicz (Griswold, Conn.) and senior Kelley Collins (Massapequa, N.Y.) collected 14 digs apiece.
Tonight's game was a Digs For Dogs event to support the Connecticut Humane Society. Proceeds from Digs For Dogs of more than $1,100 were raised to support the Connecticut Humane Society and the Pet Food Pantry. The team held a pet food drive.
