Entering his 19th season at Trinity, George Suitor has raised the Trinity College cross country program to elite status in New England.  The Bantam men placed third at the New England Championship Meet and qualified for their third straight and fourth overall NCAA Division III Championship Meet last fall.  A young Trinity women's squad came in 18th in the New England Meet and looks to improve on that finish this season.  The Trinity men went on to place a best-ever seventh in the NCAA Division III National Championships.  Suitor was selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year, after guiding the Bantams to second in the league championships

The men's squad made trips to the NCAA Division III National Championships in 2000, 2006, 2007, and 2008 while missing the championship meet by one place twice in the last seven years.  In 2002, Suitor coached Trinity's first NCAA Division III National Men's Cross Country Champion (Ryan Bak '03), who won the 8,000-meter final race with a course record time of 25:01.

The Trinity women's squad earned consecutive bids to the NCAA Division III National Championships with fourth-place performances at the New England meet in 2002 and 2003.  Six seasons ago, the Trinity women finished as the NCAA Division III National Runners-Up with a tremendous performance in the national meet that ranks among the best in Trinity sports history.

Suitor's coaching philosophy requires each runner to establish a series of goals that will enable the athlete to reach his or her potential. As a result, there is a gradual increase in training intensity as the athlete progresses from high school to college. Suitor seeks athletes who are committed to the sport, to a demanding workload, and to a team concept. This philosophy has inspired Trinity teams to improve during each of Suitor's seasons.

Suitor came to Trinity in 1992 after a highly successful tenure at the high school level. His scholastic teams (Manchester, CT) won three state championships and three runner-up distinctions, and achieved more than 225 dual-meet victories. At Trinity, 10 All-Americans and 16 All-New England runners are testaments to the success of Suitor's coaching. Suitor, retired from his career as an educator in Manchester, now devotes himself full time to his duties as head coach of Trinity's cross country and track and field squads.
